Joy Givers

Become a Joy Giver, Promote Music for Wellness

Resounding Joy calls its trained volunteers Joy Givers. Joy Givers creatively share with others the gift of music as medicine providing hope, encouragement, and consolation through supportive music making experiences. Resounding Joy has created a volunteer model that allows for anyone to become a Joy Giver emphasizing that volunteers need not be musicians, benefitting those in need of special care, Joy Receivers, within their community.

Joy Givers Are:

  • Able to Attend On-Going Periodic Joy Giver Training Updates
  • Able to Complete All Required Joy Giver Training
  • Able to Volunteer Four Hours a Month for at Least One Year
  • At Least 18 Years of Age (Jr. Joy Giver Program Also Offered)
  • Comfortable Spending Time with New Acquaintances
  • Good Listeners
  • Supportive and Eager to Share Comfort and Joy Through Music
  • Willing to Facilitate Vocal and Instrumental Experiences with Others

Resounding Joy provides Joy Giver training with the expectation that volunteers who graduate Joy Giver training will utilize the musical tools they learn helping Joy Receivers within their community. Register >>

Joy Giver Volunteer Application Process

A qualifying interview prefaces training to allow all prospective Joy Giver volunteers to learn more about Resounding Joy.

To help ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees, Resounding Joy conducts a background screening on all Joy Giver applicants. Screening results remain strictly confidential. After successful screening, Joy Givers applicants receive Resounding Joy confirmation and notification of training class location.

Joy Giver Training Curriculum

Training takes place in three mandatory sessions totaling 12 hours of music therapy instruction and a hands-on music for wellness experience led by credentialed music therapists.

The training sessions are divided as follows:

  • Seven Hour Introductory Experiential and Didactic Class Instruction
  • Three Hour Advanced On-Site Group and Individual Observation Instruction
  • Two Hour Supervised Assignment Guided by a Joy Giver Mentor

After completing the three sessions, active Joy Givers attend a supervision class to learn new techniques and strategies and share experiences they have had with their Joy Receivers.
