More than a 100 people listened and danced to live Cuban music May 2 at a dinner and concert that benefited Resounding Joy Inc., a nonprofit group that uses music to help adults and children with special needs.

Entertainment for the event at Calvary Lutheran Church was provided by Luna Llena, a North County band that specializes in music to which you can dance the salsa.
The event raised more than $11,000, according to Lou Shook of Encinitas, chairman of the fiesta event.

The money will be used to support existing programs of Resounding Joy and to expand outreach efforts into San Diego County, said Dr. Barbara Reuer of Carmel Valley, a music therapist who is executive director of the nonprofit organization.

Resounding Joy uses music to promote the emotional, mental, physical and spiritual well-being of people throughout the region, from nursing home residents, elder day-care clients and babies and toddlers of teen parents to people who are homeless or have HIV/AIDS.

It trains a network of volunteers in the principles of music therapy and partnerships with many faith-based and community-based organizations, including the Encinitas Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Redwood Elderlink in San Marcos, and the Third Avenue Charitable Organization and four high schools in San Diego.
