An Escondido man has joined the board of a nonprofit agency that uses music to help adults and children with special needs.

Matt Dolman, who owns Dolman & Associates, an accounting and consulting company in Escondido, was appointed by the board Feb. 13 as treasurer of Resounding Joy Inc., based in Carmel Valley.

He replaced Paul Hacker of Encinitas, who resigned as treasurer but will continue to serve the organization as an adviser in fund-raising.

Dr. Barbara Reuer, executive director of Resounding Joy, said she was delighted that Dolman was joining the board.

“We feel incredibly blessed by talented and experienced board members who share our mission to promote emotional, mental, physical and spiritual well-being through supportive music,” said Reuer, a music therapist. “We look forward to working with Matt as he contributes to our board's efforts to provide fiduciary and strategic leadership.”

Reuer praised Hacker for helping the organization through the last three years, a critical period of growth.

“We are pleased that he will continue serving as an adviser,” she said.

Dolman has worked with a number of companies and nonprofit organizations over the past decade, including The Plan Handlers in San Marcos,  i-SAFE America in Carlsbad, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, and Nology Engineering.

A native Californian, he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from California State University San Marcos and became a certified public accountant in 1999. He serves on the board of the San Diego North County Institute of Management Accountants, has been an alumni adviser of the Accounting Society at Cal State San Marcos, and is a member of Kiwanis.

Resounding Joy uses music to promote the emotional, mental, physical and spiritual well-being of people in many parts of the county, from nursing home residents, elder day-care clients and babies and toddlers of teen parents to homeless people and AIDS and HIV patients.

It trains a network of volunteers in the principles of music therapy and partnerships with many faith-based and community-based organizations, including the Encinitas Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Redwood Elderlink (Escondido), the Third Avenue Charitable Organization (downtown San Diego), and four high schools in San Diego.

Other members of the board are Rick Hein of Rancho Santa Fe; Jane Kieschnick of Carlsbad; Reuer and Terry Bluemer, both of Carmel Valley; and Lou Shook and Ron Ham, both of Encinitas.
