Nine individuals comprise the Resounding Joy, Inc., Board of Directors.
Each director holds office for
two years, in staggered terms. At
an annual election, the Board votes
for replacements for outgoing directors.
Anyone with passion for Resounding
Joy and an interest in serving on
the board is welcome to apply for
candidacy.
The Resounding Joy Board of Directors
convenes no fewer than four times
per year, at quarterly intervals.

Frederick “Rick” Hein
President since January 2010
Vice President from September
2005–December 2009
Frederick Hein is President and Founder of Miramar Bobcat Inc., a Bobcat Equipment dealer with five branches in southern California and Southern Nevada. Rick has nearly 40 years' experience in the construction equipment business.
Rick grew up on a beef farm in southern Minnesota and attended Gustavus Adolphus College and the University of Minnesota. After college, he spent five years working for a couple of equipment dealers in the Midwest. In 1975, he moved to San Diego to try his hand at being in business for himself. Things have worked out nicely, and today his companies employ more than a hundred people.
A lifelong Lutheran, Rick met his wife Ann in the Calvary Lutheran choir, where they remain active today. They have two grown children, both teachers.
Rick and Ann are trained and active Joy Givers. Both also sing in and direct the Minstrels, an acapella singing group that supports the ministry of Resounding Joy. Rick has served on the board of Redwood Senior Services in Escondido,
California, as Board Chair for several years. Ann continues on that board
to this day.
Serving the senior community is very important to Rick, and involving as many people in as many volunteer positions as possible is his vision for Resounding Joy, Inc.

Allison Barkley
Vice President since January 2010
Allison Barkley is a makeup artist in the entertainment industry and has a background in marketing and event coordination.
Allison's passion for music therapy began in 2004 upon seeing how it helped her son, then a newborn hospitalized with a blood disorder. Soon after, she founded Healing Hotes, a non-profit provider of music therapy services to children and served as executive director until the fall of 2009, when the organization merged with Resounding Joy. Through this collaboration, Allison helps create strong supportive relationships in the community as she promotes the mission, vision, and values of Resounding Joy and Healing Notes children’s programs to stakeholders, including parents, pediatric professionals, philanthropic organizations, and children’s health organizations.
In 2009, the American Music Therapy Association honored Allison with the prestigious Advocate of Music Therapy award.

Terry A. Bluemer
Secretary
and Parliamentarian since September
2005
Terry is the Senior Vice
President of the organizational
accountability group of Front Porch,
a not-for-profit providing housing
and healthcare to seniors. The accountability
group monitors corporate compliance,
ethics service, quality assurance,
and improvement and social accountability
programs for an organization that
serves close to 5,000 people each
day.
During Terry's
26-year span of service at Front
Porch, he has held corporate management
responsibility for pharmacy, homecare,
and skilled nursing operations.
For five years, Terry directed the
human resources department.
Raised and
educated in Michigan, Terry earned
his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University
of Michigan in 1972. Terry is a
current member of both Aging Services
of California and American Association
of Homes and Services for the Aging.
The need for
supportive music and its benefit
to the elderly, those nearing life's
end, and those with disabilities
is evident in Terry's work in the
retirement field. Enjoyment of music
and desire to help meet the needs
of others make Resounding Joy an
especially comfortable fit.

Matt Dolman
Treasurer since February 2009
Matt Dolman is the owner of Escondido accounting and consulting firm Dolman & Associates. Over the past decade, Matt has worked with a number of companies and nonprofit organizations, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego; i-SAFE Inc., in Carlsbad; Nology Engineering, Inc., in San Marcos; and The Plan Handlers in San Marcos.
A native Californian who spent part of his youth in Texas, Matt earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from California State University ( CSU ) San Marcos, received his CPA in 1999, and became a Certified Business Manager ( CBM ) in 2003.
Matt is a past president of a chapter of the San Diego North County Institute of Management Accountants and currently serves on its board of directors. He has served as alumni advisor of the Accounting Society at CSU San Marcos and is a lifetime honorary member. He has been a guest speaker for both CSU San Marcos and Nonprofit Management Solutions. To Kiwanis, he has donated both community service and fundraising event work.

John Gabriel

John is the executive director of the Center for World Music, a nonprofit organization based in San Diego whose mission is to foster awareness and understanding of the world's performing arts traditions through programs of performance, teaching, and cultural travel. John earned a Master of Arts in Musicology from San Diego State University in 2007. John has taught private lessons in guitar, piano, and musicology since earning his bachelor of arts degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 2000. John also spent three years at the Capistrano Unified School District, teaching a broad range of subjects, including music and special education classes. A native Californian, John has resided in San Diego for the past five years. He especially enjoys the ocean, spending time with his family, and traveling to Africa, Asia, and Central America.

Ron Ham

Ron has 31 years experience
in newspapers, where he's directed
coverage of everything from wildfires,
murder trials and city hall scandals
to elections, city council meetings
and presidential visits. Most recently
he was north coast editor of the
The San Diego Union-Tribune,
overseeing
the work of a half-dozen reporters
and a satellite newsroom
in Carlsbad.
Ron grew
up in the Los Angeles area and
earned his bachelor’s
degree in communications arts at
Cal Poly Pomona. He met his future
wife, Edie, after moving to Leucadia
in the late 1970s. They raised
two children, Mary Kate and Scott,
who are both in college.
Ron became
interested in Resounding
Joy because he loves
to sing. A tenor in the choir
at Calvary
Lutheran Church, he helped publicize
fundraising
concerts for the non-profit organization
and joined its Minstrels a cappella
group before joining the board.
These days,
he spends much of his time photographing
nature and water sports.

Barbara Reuer, PhD, NMT, MT–BC

Dr. Reuer, the founder of Resounding Joy, Inc., has earned international recognition of her expertise in music-centered wellness and music therapy. She has served as
President of the National Association for Music Therapy and was the year 2000 recipient of the Professional Practice Award from the American Music Therapy Association for her significant contribution to the practice of music therapy. Her vast experience includes more than 30 years of clinical experience in public schools, older-adult facilities,
hospices, medical and psychiatric hospitals, corrections facilities, substance abuse and eating disorders programs, health spas, and teaching at the community college and university level.
Dr. Reuer is founder and CEO of MusicWorx Inc., an international clinical training program for music therapy interns. MusicWorx also provides workshops and seminars—wellness, community-building, and stress management—for healthcare professionals, educators, and corporate clients.
Dr. Reuer is the author and co-author of several books and articles, recognized by numerous prestigious publications as well as the Lifetime Network television show, New Attitudes. Dr. Reuer is a frequent subject
of print media feature articles and televised interview formats at local, national, and international levels.

Louis Shook

Louis is a marketing professional with a background in advertising and graphic design. He currently provides graphic design and marketing services on a free-lance basis. For more than 12 years he was the Creative Services Manager at The
San Diego Union-Tribune, where he directed a team of writers, editors and graphic artists on a variety of projects. He was also a board member of the The San Diego Direct Marketing Association from 2006-2009.
Lou has enjoyed surfing for many years and plays guitar and sings with his band, the Flounders, at a number of North San Diego County venues.

Renée Schor

Renée has dedicated more than eighteen years to worldwide partneships with employers that meet their vision for an ideal workplace. Renée counsels her clients, provides on-going support, and serves as outside investigator on harassment and discrimination claims. Renée’s litigation experience includes defense of wage and hour class actions, discrimination and harassment claims, and trade-secret violations.
Renée obtained her law degree from University of California Hastings College of the Law and her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University. From 1990 to 1994, she was an employment attorney with Gray, Cary, Ames & Frye (formerly Gray, Cary, Ware & Friedenrich). In 1994, Renée began working for Baker & McKenzie, where she became partner in 2000. In December 2007, Renée and law partner and friend Cynthia Freeland created Schor & Freeland LLP, in order to provide affordable legal counsel to value-based companies wth goals to create great workplaces.
In 2007 and 2008 Renée was named a San Diego Super Lawyer. In 2008 Renée was named one of San Diego Magazine's Best Lawyers and one of the San Diego Daily Transcipt’s Top Attorneys. Renée also was named to Southern California Best Lawyers’ list 2009 and to the 2010 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. Renée is a member of the Federal Bar Association, the State Bar of California, the San Diego County Bar Association, and San Diego Lawyers Club.
